A wine-growing town with a remarkable heritage
Located at the heart of the German Wine Route and on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, Neustadt an der Weinstraße is Germany’s second-largest wine-growing municipality. With 58,000 inhabitants, the town combines cultural heritage, renowned vineyards and quality of life.
Its town centre is home to one of the few stone buildings in the Palatinate dating back to the 13th century. Nearby, the famous Hambach Castle, considered the birthplace of German democracy, is another iconic landmark of the area.
As part of a major transformation project for its public spaces, the town is redesigning its road surfaces, electrical infrastructure, street and landscape furniture, as well as its decorative and festive lighting systems..
A progressive approach to lighting
For Neustadt, lighting must help highlight the town’s iconic spaces while preserving its heritage and environmental identity. The objective is to provide the right light, in the right place and at the right time, without excessive energy consumption or light pollution.
With 6,400 luminaires, 76% of which are already equipped with LED technology, and 150 electrical cabinets spread across a territory stretching 23 km, the town also needs to improve the efficiency of its maintenance operations.
Travel between the central workshop and some electrical cabinets can reach 10 km. Until now, the lack of visibility on failures has made it difficult to anticipate interventions, resulting in additional travel and increased demands on maintenance teams.
Independent management for different lighting applications
To address these challenges, the town is progressively deploying LACROIX Environment Smart Lighting’s Tegis lighting management solution.
The LX Tegis platform enables different areas to be managed independently through customised control options, including annual calendars and event-specific programming. It also provides accurate operating data to optimise maintenance operations.
This differentiated approach meets the various lighting needs of Neustadt: public lighting, façade lighting and festive Christmas lighting can all be controlled independently.
In key areas of the town, TZX Zhaga nodes enable individual control of decorative luminaires, particularly in taxi and bus waiting areas. This makes it possible to implement customised lighting scenarios according to specific needs.
Preparing the future of lighting in Neustadt
For the town of Neustadt an der Weinstraße, this first phase of installation provides a solid foundation for the gradual development of lighting management across the entire territory.
The approach enables the town to plan renovation work according to its available resources and budget, without having to undertake a complete renovation all at once.
With real-time monitoring of electrical cabinets and luminaires, the solution also helps anticipate failures, optimise maintenance travel and make better use of available resources.
